Main dishes: they stick to the stomach and we need the protein!
Green Chile Pesto Prawns: a simple yet delicious-sounding recipe from one of my favorite natural food co-ops.

February 8-18th: Do you know someone who loves shrimp (and isn't allergic?) And, better yet, do you have basil or parsley growing in an herb garden indoors or out? Then this recipe might be just the thing for an unusual post-Valentine's Day dinner or snack. It's from PCC Natural Markets -- a Seattle-based co-op that's evolved over the years from the "natural health food store" on the corner to stores that include cafe tables and a marketing department sending out e-mail bulletins: that's how I learned of this recipe. (Image unrelated to PCC; it's just an interesting image licensed by Creative Commons. Tell us how the recipe works out!

It's a Gluten Free July 4th!

July 2nd, 2011. What's on your menu for the weekend? Is it hamburgers with lettuce or a gluten free sandwich wrapping? Potato salad using gluten free mayo? A nice cheesecake (gluten free crust, of course) with strawberry or raspberry sauce?
Or, perhaps you can bring something to the picnic a little untraditional, maybe, but that is also naturally gluten free -- how about clams or mussels with a lemon-garlic sauce?
For one great recipe idea, you might want to try this "Moroccan Whole Spice-crusted Chicken Brochettes" recipe from one of my fave health food stores, PCC (Puget Sound Consumers Coop). Just do a search on the name and PCC and it should pop right up! It is a designated gluten free recipe; I haven't made it yet, but made a similar Martha Stewart recipe that turned out great! Plus, it adds a little elegance to the usual barbeque, don't you think?

Warm-sounding luscious bean soup recipe

Creative Commons attribution credit, below.
January 13th: An excellent-sounding New York Times bean soup recipe by Martha Rose Shulman -- would be made gluten free with a substitute for farro (spelt). Pinto beans, cabbage, butternut squash, carrot. Nutrition heaven and it looks great in the NYT photo (distinctly different than the tropical scene, above!) As spelt (farro) is not gluten free, one must substitute. Any thoughts?

The skivvy on humanely raised meat

December 27th: How to buy the best, humanely-raised meat? What are the various labelling alternatives? I'll admit that though I usually look for organic if possible, or for the names of cerain local farms that I know use best practices, I need to study the labels detailed in this "food for thought" article appearing on SlashFood, twittered by Noshtopia.
