On Monday, April 12, 2012, everyone is welcome to hear speaker Henri Parren, Manager of the Tacoma Food Co-op (opened in August, 2011). Parren has a fascinating background, not only as a sustainable food advocate, but as an entrepreneur and executive for various start-up companies, including an organic/healthy grocery delivery service in Seattle, and Tacoma-based Griot's Garage, a line of high-end automotive care products sold by direct mail catalog.
Mr. Parren grew up on farmland in the Netherlands, where, he said in his bio, "the sustainable lifestyle was the norm. The daily home-cooked meals included a lot of fresh, organic and local products. Fast food did not exist." As a child, he said, he could walk just 200 yards and buy fresh eggs from a nearby farm.
